Fatty Foods You Can Eat More Of (And Feel Good About!)
Should you be eating more fried foods?
For years we've been warned about the dangers of eating too many saturated fats. But in the last few years, our understanding of fat has changed.
It's no wonder that the most common misconception I hear when talking to dieters about their weight struggles is that fatty foods are the enemy. On the one hand, it seems to make sense.
If you want to lose fat, don’t eat fat. Right?
Wrong. The body is so much more complicated than that. In fact, eating fat can help you lose weight. I know it seems impossible, but science tells us it’s true.
Why Do SO Many People Think Fat Is Bad?
The no-fat fad started in the 1980s, when several popular diets were created around reducing fat content. These diets ignored things like calories and carbs, focusing only on fat for weight loss.
These diets were based on inconclusive studies that have since been proven to be inaccurate. But, the damage was done. People believed that fat was the enemy. Even worse, they believed that reducing their fat intake would result in weight loss.
A lot of dieters ended up more disappointed and less healthy than when they started.
Fat Is Back!
Don't get me wrong...
There are conflicting opinions on fat. Just think about how controversial the fat-rich Keto diet is today (but it totally works for a lot of people, doesn't it!).
The fat in our bodies serves many important purposes. That’s why eliminating them is not a healthy option. Fat protects our vital organs, stockpile nutrients, and allow proteins to do their job.
You need fuel for your body, otherwise your whole system will break down. By eliminating fat from your diet, you put yourself in danger of illness and poor health.
Reasons You SHOULD Be Eating Saturated Fats
Saturated fats used to be the "bad fats."
But it turns out, they were just misunderstood.
What I've done below is complied some of the most recent research on the BENEFITS of eating more saturated fat. Take a look:
Lose Weight Faster
In recent scientific findings, studies have shown that diets HIGH in saturated fat cause dieters to lose MORE fat than diets low in saturated fat do. The more saturated fats you eat, the faster you will lose the fat and flab that are keeping you from looking and feeling your best.
Speed Up Your Metabolism
One of the functions of fat in the body is to convey messages. It carries chemical signals between nerves, proteins, and other essential components in our systems. The metabolism is like the control panel for how these systems work.
Saturated fat makes these signals stronger, making our metabolisms run faster. The faster your metabolism, the faster all of that ugly flab will fall away.
More importantly, a faster metabolism improves weight loss for life. The smoother your metabolic system runs, the easier it is to lose weight and keep it off.
Get a Healthier Brain
Did you know that your brain is mostly made up of cholesterol and fat? It is! All of that fat helps the billions of neurons that are constantly firing in there working their very best. Most of that fat is—you guessed it—saturated fat.
In order to get better brain function, eat plenty of saturated fats. That way you’ll be sure to keep those neurons firing in top condition.
Improve Your Lung Health
When you breathe in and out, your lungs expand and contract. All of that action could leave your lungs in bad shape. Luckily, the body makes a lubricant that keeps your lungs healthy even as they do all of that hard work. This lubricant is made out of saturated fats. So, if you want to keep your lungs in prime condition, make sure that you include enough saturated fats in your diet.
Build Stronger Bones
One of the important things that fat does in the body is to help convey nutrients to different locations. When it comes to bone health, you need as much calcium as possible to keep your bones healthy and strong. The fat in your diet carries calcium to your bones, so, without it, you can’t absorb calcium effectively.
Expert Mary Enig, Ph.D., recommends that up to 50% of your fats should be saturated, precisely to aid in the absorption of calcium.
